my oldest turned 7 over the weekend and i really wanted to make her a blanket/quilt for her most prized possession, the american girl doll. i also wanted to give her doll bed a makeover, it was one that has been passed down through generations and i thought it would look nice with some fresh and modern paint and bedding.

i found a great tutorial for a small quilt that uses lots of scraps and went to work. when i started sifting through the scrap bin i realized that most of the scraps have come from dresses, blankets, curtains, costumes, skirts, shirts, etc that i’ve made for my daughter over the years – so i decided to make the quilt exclusively in those scraps. my sentimental self could not wait to remember each item with her as we looked over the finished product.

i went to lowe’s to pick up her favorite blue color and then mike spent the evening spray painting it, in the rain and then in the basement, which managed to stink up the entire house – i wonder if they make no voc spray paint?

i took a night to iron and cut the scraps into just the right size and then pinned them to the quilt. making it was fun, i learned about meandering and did a fun geometric pattern to catch all of the scraps. and i think now that i know i can make a modern and fresh quilt, i may try some more.

she and her american girl doll have been enjoying it this week and i received a large grin and a giant hug after i gave it to her, making it all so worthwhile.

the next two fabrics are from jane dixon’s new primitiva line, i could not resist the gorgeous colors and patterns – i think they would look great as napkins and towels. and the floral print would also make a very stylish baby blanket gift for that new little girl in your life:

i also bought up some prints from his first line, that i think the manufacturer is phasing out. i made some napkins in asian floral persimmon that have been quite popular so i purchased three more asian floral prints in different colorways:

chartreuse, ice, charcoal

and finally, the blossom print from impressions has been very popular as well. i made a reversible a-line dress and a few custom order skirts in the espresso colorway – so this time i bought it in charcoal and chartreuse:

and this is one of my favorite amy butler prints from her lotus collection, it’s called wall flower cherry. this is a great versatile fabric that would work for anything from baby blankets to napkin sets and towels. it’s just plain gorgeous:

my favorite groovy guitars are back, this time in a whiter, brighter colorway called lagoon. and i love the chevron stripe. i found it in this fresh, modern green vertical stripe from moda:

and finally i found these fun prints for childrens’ items and i think the cutlery set would look great on a kitchen towel too. the trains are even organic!
